Hot for SXSW registered attendees this week is
the much anticipated BBQ Crash Course lunch
event held at Emo’s. The 300 tickets sold out in
record time. Put this on your calendar for 2012 if
you are planning on attending SXSW. Some of the
old timers will be there, so bring your copy of the
Barbecue Lover’s Guide for autographs.

Sadly, Richard Jones Bar-B-Q on Congress closed in August 2010.
The neighborhood friends and customers miss the home style
cooking, smoky meats at bargain prices.

J. Kelly’s, who took over Ben’s Longbranch at 900 E. 11th, closed in
November 2010.

Cartwright’s Famous Bar-B-Q at 9600 S. I-35 closed January 2011
(the other location at Highway 290 W. is open).

Salt Lick Trailer near UT at Rio Grande and MLK opened in August
2010 but closed within months.

Mr. Bones BBQ (John Goode) is back in business after a 10 year
hiatus in a sparkling new location, 1201 Barbara Jordon Blvd. next
door to Jamba Juice.

Franklin BBQ is moving their retro style trailer on Concordia to a
brick and mortar joint at 900 E. 11th St and I-35, the former location
of Ben’s Longbranch and J. Kelly’s BBQ. This looks like a winner for
Aaron and Stacy Franklin.

Sugar Shack is back in business at W. 21st St. after a fire December
2010. I checked it out the other day, Yum!!

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit opened in a new residential building with
parking at 5350 Burnet Rd. A very convenient location for the
neighbors in the residential building.
